Male hair loss is more common than people think. According to the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), 67% of men in America will experience some degree of appreciable hair loss by age 35, and 85% of men by age 50. In fact, 50 million men in the country are suffering from male pattern baldness at any given time. You aren’t alone, and we can help.
The most common cause of male hair loss is genetics. Genetic male pattern baldness, also known as androgenetic alopecia (AGA), is diagnosed based on appearance, classified on the Hamilton-Norwood scale, and becomes noticeable as thick terminal hairs convert into short, thin, vellus-like hairs. This conversion process increases scalp transparency until the vellus hairs are lost over time to reveal a naked scalp.

Our goal is to educate patients about all their hair restoration options, build a supportive community, and to help patients find a NeoGraft®physician in their area. When you choose NeoGraft, you know you’re choosing a solution that:
NeoGraft is a new automated hair transplant system which facilitates the harvesting of follicles during a Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) hair transplant, dramatically improving the accuracy and speed over previously used manual extraction instruments.
Patients who would like the option of wearing a very short haircut in the back or sides of their scalp, or those who want the least amount of activity restriction (e.g. athletes) after their hair transplant procedure, may be good candidates for FUE. The NeoGraft FUE System can also be used for ‘scar camouflage’ procedures for patients who have had prior linear harvests, as well as for body hair transplants.
Candidates for hair restoration surgery are those individuals in good health with moderate hair loss and sufficient donor hair on the back of the scalp to transplant into the balding areas. Those with more donor hair, greater hair density and fullness can typically expect fuller results. It is also important that you have reasonable cosmetic goals. Hair transplantation can achieve very good, natural results but cannot restore your hair to the density you had as a teenager. Your doctor will assess the amount of coverage needed to give you the appearance you desire.
NeoGraft uses controlled pneumatic pressure to slide out the graft smoothly, so there is no pulling or twisting that can risk damaging the graft. Your grafts can be re-implanted sooner, keeping them more robust and resulting in a natural looking hairline.
The science behind grafting is simple. Hair follicles are taken from the hair in the back of the head that naturally continues to grow. The follicles that hold your transplanted hair are living tissues that grow cyclically. Once the normal hair follicle has been implanted into the balding area, the grafted hair will stay in place for about two to three weeks before shedding – this is normal and an important part of the new growth process. After shedding, the new growth will begin in 3-4 months and your hair will continue to grow normally. More importantly, your results will look healthy and natural.
Hair loss does not stop after transplantation – some people will need continued maintenance and further sessions will likely be required, particularly if your balding pattern continues with age. Progressive hair loss or the desire for more density may require more transplants. An estimate of balding pattern and the number of procedures needed will be discussed during the consultation with your doctor.
"F.U.E." or "Follicular-Unit Extraction" is an advanced, minimally-invasive hair transplant method which allows for the harvesting of individual follicles from the donor area without a scalpel incision or the necessary stitches, and therefore leaves no linear scar.
The highly ergonomic mechanical NeoGraft system works as a natural extension of the surgeons' hand, allowing for faster and more accurate harvesting of hair follicles. NeoGraft patients now reach their goal with less time in the procedure room or fewer FUE procedures altogether.
Yes. Because FUE/NeoGraft is a minimally-invasive procedure, it is a viable option for both men and women looking to restore their own living and growing hair with transplantation.
No, not if your wear your hair long. If your donor hair is long enough, harvesting using the FUE/NeoGraft can be done by shaving small areas which can be covered by your other, existing hair. If you wear your hair short, it helps to shave it close for maximum yield. It looks more natural sooner as the transplanted grafts are short as well.
"The doctor will do a physical examination and talk about your hair loss history as well as your expectations. You will view before and after photos, and talk about the technology of NeoGraft. The coordinator will then go over schedule and pricing information."
"The patient will need to be prepared for a very short haircut in the area of graft harvest (donor site). Patients will be advised to cut their hair short in preparation for the shaving of the donor site by the NeoGraft doctor. Cutting the hair short ahead of time will allow for less noticeable change after the patient returns to work and social situations while the donor site heals and is covered by growth of hair."
"Depending on the number of grafts harvested, a Neograft procedure can take between 3 - 8 hours."
"The day is split into two halves: donor harvesting and placement. Harvesting requires the patient to lie face down for 2 - 4 hours. The back of the scalp is anesthetized and the individual follicular groupings are extracted from the back of the scalp via the NeoGraft device. Between donor harvesting and placement, the patient is allowed to go to the bathroom or grab a quick bite to eat. The donor hair placement requires the patient to sit upright while the front of the scalp is anesthetized and the individual follicular groupings are placed into the frontal scalp via small incisions." -- Terrence Keaney, MD
"Patients should expect to be in the office a minimum of four hours depending on the size of their procedure, this may be anywhere up to eight hours. They should bring a lunch and some light snacks. In our practice we buy lunch for our patients and take care of any special needs they may have to make it their day."
"Patients should expect their grafts to be slightly raised in the first week to two weeks following implantation. 3 to 4 days after their procedure they will start to scab over, they need to be gentle any time interacting with the scalp for the first 14 days. This includes not using force when showering and instead using the "cup method" protecting the graphs from both wind and sun and being careful not to disrupt them in any way with hands or other objects." -- Keith Durante, MD
"Grafted hair will not fall out. You want to make sure additional hair loss is halted. NeoGraft PhotoDynamic Therapy is great for maintenance. Propecia might be appropriate and your doctor will discuss this with you. Your graft hair is yours." -- Keith Jeffords, MD
"After your NeoGraft procedure, the staff will assure that the grafts are in proper position and secure. They will thoroughly rinse the donor and recipient areas and a light protective dressing may be applied. You will be given thorough instructions about how to care for the grafts postoperatively and follow-up. There is minimal care following your NeoGraft procedure. You may be given a shampoo and or topical antiseptic to use after your NeoGraft procedure.
Because there is no incision in the donor area, there is no need to remove any sutures. There's typically very little pain or discomfort after the procedure. You may experience a slight amount of drainage for the first day after your procedure, but this is minimal. It is best to refrain from strenuous activity for the first week or so, as this may increase the amount of swelling on your forehead area after the procedure." -- Daniel Elliott Rousso, M.D., F.A.C.S.
