Tummy Tuck for Men
Tummy Tuck for Men
Liposuction may not do the job if you have loose skin on your abdominal wall. If you want to lose fat and tighten your skin and muscles, you may be a great candidate for a male tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty. This procedure can be performed (a mini tuck to a full tummy tuck) to give you long-lasting results with continued healthy exercise and diet habits.
Regaining a Flat Stomach
If there is one universal truth, it’s that all people would like to have a flat stomach. Men, we know you want to look younger, firmer, and more toned. Unfortunately, once the muscles and skin in the abdomen have been stretched to a certain degree, they can’t return to their previous degree of tautness. There is only so much your diet and exercise regime can do for your body and skin. No matter how many crunches you do, no matter how much kale you eat, you can’t get the abdomen to tighten back up.
But don’t lose hope — a male tummy tuck with Dr. Aydin can do it!
Would a tummy tuck help me?
A male tummy tuck can be a great option for a man who has lost a significant of weight and has excess abdominal skin and loose abdominal muscles. Why? Because, while your skin has great elasticity and is very resilient, there is a point where it is overstretched for too long a period and it just can’t return to its previous degree of tautness. For men who have had a large weight gain, followed by a massive weight loss, it can leave you with sagging, loose skin that hangs. The muscles can also become weakened, even separated.
But a tummy tuck is not a weight loss procedure. Dr. Aydin prefers his patients considering a tummy tuck be within 10% of their ideal weight.
Tummy tucks are performed with the patient under general anesthesia, taking from two to five hours. The procedure may be inpatient or outpatient depending on the complexity.
A full tummy tuck involves two incisions. The first is made from hipbone to hipbone. The second incision is at the navel. These incisions provide access to the underlying abdominal muscles, which have become weak and separated. These muscles are pulled together and stitched into place to create a firmer abdomen and narrower waist. The skin is then stretched downward over the newly tightened muscles, excess skin is trimmed, and the navel is reattached.
For patients who still have good muscle tone, a mini tummy tuck could be an option. In a mini tuck, only a single incision is made down around the pubic area. Muscles are not usually addressed in a mini tuck, just loose skin, which is pulled down and the excess trimmed off. A mini tummy tuck can also be good for older patients whose abdominal skin has simply become looser due to aging.
Recovery and results
Because it involves the underlying muscles, recovery from tummy tuck surgery isn’t easy. You will wear compression garments to keep the swelling down and to help your body conform to its new contours. Still, there will be pain and swelling for the first few days, followed by residual soreness for weeks, possible months. Recovery time ranges from a few weeks to a few months. Lifting objects and any strenuous activity will have to wait at least six weeks, and you’ll need to take up to one month off work.
Patients love the results of their tummy tuck procedures, as they again have the flat stomach of their youth. Results will last for decades, as long as the patient maintains a healthy weight and follows some sort of exercise routine.
